About the Author
About This Book
Faith: I’m a waitress in a small town, so when a handsome stranger leaves me a hundred-dollar tip and asks me to meet him at his place, I throw caution to the wind. Sure, I might be abducted or even worse, but what Hunter and I ended up doing in private made it *totally* worth it.
* * *
Hunter: The minute I saw Faith in that flirty waitress outfit, I lost it. Was I pushy and possessive? Yes. Did I help myself to those curves the minute she stepped through the door? Yes. But there’s something strange about Faith because she looks eerily like a woman I used to know. To my horror, she is my ex-wife’s daughter … but that’s not going to stop me from putting a baby in her belly!
* * *
Hey Readers – Hunter’s a pro athlete who had a 6-second marriage back in the day, but it comes back to haunt him when he meets the woman of his dreams. After all, Faith is everything that he wants, but what happens when she shares the DNA of his ex-wife? There is *nothing* realistic about this story, but I promise you’ll love it because this is forbidden romance at its best! This book is a follow-up to Hot Single Daddy, but all of my books may be read as standalones. No cheating, no cliffhangers, and always a HEA for my readers. Enjoy! Xoxo, Cassie

Faith
* * *
Today is going to be a good day, and I can feel it in my bones. I did my hair and makeup specifically to make sure to highlight my plush lips and bright eyes, and to contour my cheeks as much as possible.
“OMG, my cheeks look so round. I’m a chipmunk!” I moaned to my friend Bella as she helped me with my cosmetics. My buddy merely laughed.
“You don’t look like a chipmunk!” she protested. “That’s Alvin, Simon and Theodore. You’re glowing and curvy, that’s all.”
I merely stared at my reflection while pinching my cheeks once more.
“Chipmunk,” I pouted.
My friend giggled again.
“Okay Alvin. I mean, Faith.”
But now, my make-up’s done and my outfit’s on. I smooth down the skirt of my dress. It’s a blue button-up with my name sewn onto the breast. I like it because when I need extra tips, I can pop the top couple of buttons and let my cleavage do a bit of talking. It’s ridiculous, but it works. Men don’t seem able to tear their eyes away from my décolletage, and the last time I did this, I grossed almost a hundred bucks in one shift.
I sigh with defeat. Honestly, I hate even having to resort to these tactics because it seems so shady. But I know the answer even as my eyes wander to my calendar. Rent is due next week and my bank account’s got a whole lot of nothing in it. I really need this shift to go well, or I’m not going to be able to pay my landlord and he already hates me.
I take a deep breath and stare at myself in the mirror again. It’ll be fine. Most of my uniforms are a medium, but I ordered this one extra small for days like this. Even with two buttons un-done, my girls barely stay in and the short skirt wafts around my upper thighs. A breeze passes over my thin panties, and I shiver. My plan better work because it’s going to be downright embarrassing if it doesn’t!
But what if things are slow today? It’s summer now and things have been dragging ever since most of our college regulars went home. Don’t get me wrong: spring was amazing and I built up some savings, but now, I’m nearly out of money again. Dang. Living on my own is harder than I expected. Between rent, bills, and tuition for community college, money is tight.
But I’m going to make it work. I have to because I’m not a quitter, and I’m definitely not moving back in with my dad. That would be embarrassing because Marcus is now married to my friend Bella, and they have a baby too. There’s no way that I’m goin
g to intrude on their little family, although I’m sure my friend would welcome me with open arms. Is it weird that she’s my friend and stepmom now? Well, it’s okay. Bells is cool and we’ve never had any tension despite the fact that we’re related now.
My phone dings with a message. I still have a few minutes before my shift starts, so I open it. Ugh. It’s nothing. Just a political campaign asking me for money. I don’t even know how they got my number, to be honest, so I click “Report Spam” and flick my phone shut.
Sighing, I slip my cell into my purse, and then tug on my ponytail to make sure it’s nice and tight before heading out onto the restaurant floor. For good measure, I pull my décolletage a little lower. Again, things are tough this month, and I have to make this shift count.
“Well, that’s as good as I’m going to get,” I mutter. Stepping behind the counter, I paste a big smile on my face, just in case anyone’s watching. My coworker, Serenity, whistles when she sees me, her eyes going up and down my frame.
“Damn, girl, who are you trying to impress?”
I laugh wryly. “Anyone who wants to leave a big tip.”
She nods with understanding. “Are you having trouble with rent?”
I sigh. “Yeah, it wasn’t so bad at first, but ever since I renewed my lease, I’ve been struggling. Management upped my rent by a hundred bucks a month, for no reason too! It’s not like they did renovations or anything.”
Serenity clucks.
“Don’t worry, you’re still young. You can move back in with your dad, right?”
I make a face.
“Hell no! My dad’s married now to my friend Bella, remember? I don’t want to intrude, especially since they have my little half-brother now. I love him to pieces, but I know I’d be on babysitting duty practically non-stop.”
Serenity nods sympathetically.
“I get that, but I hate to see you so stressed out. It doesn’t seem necessary.”
I squeeze my friend’s arm. “Thanks. I only have a few more months until I finish my Associate’s degree, and then without the tuition payments, it won’t be so bad anymore.”
Serenity nods.
“True. Are you going to be okay until then though? I’m worried about you, girlfriend. That skirt is really short and looks as if a breeze could blow it up any second.”
I grin.
“That’s the point, Serenity. Hopefully a breeze blows it up and then the customers feel so hot and bothered that they give me their entire wallets.”
The two of us giggle together, but I grimace internally thinking about the big fat zero in my bank account again. If I don’t make two hundred dollars in the next week, I’ll go into overdraft and the bank will hit me with a fee. Then there’ll be interest on the fee, and I’ll probably get another fee just for having a fee. Soon, I’ll owe a couple hundred in interest and fees alone. How do others avoid getting in this quicksand? But Serenity doesn’t need to know about my train of thought. Instead, I just nod and thank her for her concern.
“I’ll be okay,” I say with fake cheer. “Don’t worry about me.”
My co-worker nods and bustles off back to her section, her brown ponytail bouncing. I’m lucky to have Serenity because things are just easier when she’s here at the diner. Her positive outlook on life always helps, especially when I’m suffering through a really crazy shift.
It’s funny too, because we look enough alike to be sisters. In fact, sometimes the older cook in back mistakes us for each other, as if we’re clones. I don’t mind though because Serenity’s spunky and cute with an infectious laugh and a glow about her. In fact, she almost never wears makeup but still looks beautiful.
But my friend’s right. Does life have to be this hard? It seems unreasonable, given how hard we hustle each day. Then again, I should count myself lucky because I know if I asked my dad for help, he would give me some money to tide me over. But I’m too proud for that. I’ll keep picking up shifts and dressing sexy in order to get extra tips.
Meanwhile, Serenity comes back with a pencil tucked behind her ear and grabs a towel from the counter.
“Hey, I’ve been meaning to ask: what happened to that guy you were seeing a couple months back?” she burbles.
I sigh and mock frown. “Jimmy turned out to be a real jerk. I thought I found someone real, but you know what? He was cheating on me the whole time. Even worse, I kind of get the feeling that I was the “other woman.” Like he’d been dating his primary for a while, and I was the side piece.”
My friend’s mouth drops open.
“Are you serious?”
I nod.
“Yeah, isn’t it crazy? I swear, I was so clueless and didn’t suspect until the very end, when I found a diaphragm in his backpack. I mean, why would a man be carrying a diaphragm when I don’t use one? He tried to pass it off as a joke, but how could that possibly be funny? It was so ridiculous, and I broke up with him on the spot.”
Serenity’s practically speechless.
“Wow. Just wow.”
“I know,” I say. “That’s why I think she was the primary though. They were clearly long-term if she was using a diaphragm. Jimmy and I just used condoms.”
Serenity shakes her head again.
“I’m sorry, girl. I know you liked him. But hey, that means you’re free to flirt as much as you want today!”
I make a funny face.
“Sort of. I mean, it’s just for the money because I’ve sworn off real dating, at least for a little while. I’m too traumatized from the whole Jimmy thing.”
That makes Serenity burst out with laughter.
“Come on, we’re young! You’re not that traumatized! Honestly, the story’s kind of funny. Just a teensy-weensy bit, you have to admit.”
I giggle. “You’re right, but I’m not ready. Seriously, the situation with Jimmy was just too lame and I’m taking myself out of the dating game for a while to recuperate.”
Serenity grins. “Well, okay. Besides, I’m sure you’ll make your tips today because I happened to see a big spender get seated in your section just now.”
I make another funny face while pulling my skirt straight.
“Hmmm, so that means he’ll order a deluxe milkshake instead of the regular? With five cherries so we can charge extra?”
Serenity lets out a peal of laughter.
“Exactly! Maybe some extra whipped cream too, so we can charge double.”
We both giggle because there’s no way the diner would charge for those tiny add-ons.
“Well, wish me luck then,” I say in a wry tone. With that, I tie my apron around my waist tightly, grab my order pad, and head around the corner to my section. It’s time to get to work.
Harry’s is a small, old-school diner with a juke box and neon lights. The floor is shiny with black and white checks, just like the diners in movies, and the booths have red padding. In a nice addition, there’s a bud vase at each table with a pink carnation inside, and I love it. It gives the place a personal touch.
I look around, searching for the big spender and gasp when I see him. I’d been anticipating someone old and greasy, to be honest, with a roll of cash clutched between sausage-like fingers. But instead, this man is gorgeous. He’s got raven-black hair, piercing blue eyes, and the features of a male model. His brow is strong and his nose Roman; those lips, I would die for a taste of.
But I have to make money. This is a time for hustling, not romance, so I prance over with an extra wiggle to my step.
“Hi, I’m Faith and I’ll be your waitress today. Can I get you started with something to drink?”
The man rakes his eyes over my body. This tight uniform was a good choice, obviously, when I see his gaze linger in the shadow between my girls. Unfortunately, what I didn’t count on was my physical reaction. My nipples tighten, and it’s obvious beneath the thin fabric of my dress. He smirks a bit and then flicks his eyes up to meet mine again.
